No stranger to the spotlight and Devon victory, Great Britain’s Amanda Derbyshire will return in an attempt to carry on her winning streak. Derbyshire rode alongside of McLain Ward to take the win in the Open Jumper Division of 2019.
Ward, a four-time olympic medalist for the United States, has been a competitor at the Devon Horse Show for a countless number of years. The $250,000 Sapphire Grand Prix of Devon was named after his legendary mare, Sapphire, after her passing in 2014. Ward has successfully claimed the win in Sapphire Grand Prix 11 times. The “King of Devon” has marked tremendous milestones at the Devon Horse Show and will be back again this year to continue his greatness.
Promising young talent, Natalie Dean, will also make her appearance at the 2022 Devon Horse Show after riding to the top of the leaderboard in the $20,000 Show Jumping Hall of Fame Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic in 2019. This year she will return to compete in the infamous Open Jumper Division with the most powerful international horse-and-rider combinations that Devon will host.
Boasting a ‘Premier’ Hunter rating by US Equestrian (USEF), the Devon Horse Show welcomes the foremost hunter riders each year as the event offers a range of hunter divisions for professionals, amateurs, juniors and pony riders. In addition, the popular $25,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby is an exciting feature class that allows derby riders to showcase their talents in the Dixon Oval. Hunter competition is further highlighted with hunter breeding and pony hunter breeding classes.
In 2022, the Devon Horse Show will play host to top hunter riders through all divisions. Known riders qualified to pass through the “Where Champions Meet” arch in the Dixon Oval include Scott Stewart, Amanda Steege, Victoria Colvin, and Cristopher Payne. In 2019, she swept the competition with her mount Private Practice taking the overall Grand Hunter Champion title and the Leading Lady Rider title. Earning the Leading Hunter Rider Award for the fourteenth time in his career in 2019, Scott Stewart has also made history at the Devon Horse Show.
Returning to the historic showgrounds to shine in the professional hunter sections is California-based rider, Nick Haness. Haness has piloted many classic hunters to scores in the 90’s and tricolors at shows all over the country. His big win at the Devon Horse Show in 2016 was with his magical partner, Technicolor. The pair took centerstage with a clean sweep in the First Year Green Hunter division.
