New York, USA – February 15, 2022 – New York Empire team owner Georgina Bloomberg of New York, New York, announced the team of six competitive riders for the 2022 Global Champions League (GCL) season, which is a part of the Longines Global Champions Tour (LGCT). Accompanying Bloomberg on the roster will be 2021 New York Empire riders Scott Brash, (GBR), Denis Lynch (IRL), and Spencer Smith (USA). These four riders will be joined by newcomers and Under 25 riders Jodie Hall McAteer (GBR) and Harry Charles (GBR) of Great Britain.
New York Empire finished 10th in the 2021 season and qualified for the GCL Playoffs in Prague, Czech Republic. The team had several successful placings, including a podium finish during Rome Week II.
“New York Empire was strong last year, and I am excited about another excellent season in 2022,” explained Bloomberg, who debuted the New York Empire team in 2018. “I always enjoy competing alongside Scott, Denis, and Spencer, and we are all thrilled to welcome Jodie and Harry to the roster. I believe that their experience, talent, and horses will greatly benefit the team.”
Charles joins the New York Empire team as the Number One rider in the world in the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) Under 25 ranking. The young rider earned three impressive five-star wins at the London International Horse Show in London, England, in 2021 and he competed for Great Britain at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
After a noteworthy junior career, McAteer has continued to successfully compete at the top level of the sport. McAteer won the Voltaire Design Under 25 British Championship in 2021 at the London International Horse Show. In June 2021, McAteer earned her first five-star win in the 1.45m Speed Challenge at LGCT Valkenswaard in Valkenswaard, The Netherlands. Following that victory, McAteer helped Great Britain earn bronze at the 2021 European Young Rider Championships in Vilamoura, Portugal.
