Sopot, Poland – June 18, 2021 – Brian Moggre (USA) and Balou du Reventon were at their very best on Friday during the Sopot Horse Show CSIO 5*. The dynamic duo, who embody brilliance and boldness, overcame some big names of the sport to win the $660,600 Longines Grand Prix CSIO 5*.
The 20-year-old American was supreme aboard Ann Thompson‘s 15-year-old bay Oldenburg stallion (Cornet Obolensky x Continue), overcoming all the 1.60m obstacles in the first round, being the fastest pair among seven combinations that registered a double clear in the two-round contest, claiming top honors in 48.09 seconds.
It was a one-two for two young stars of showjumping in America, with Lucy Deslauriers (USA) and Hester (Wandor van de Mispelaere x Palestro vd Begijnakker) finishing only seven-hundredths of a second behind her compatriot, a mark that ended up earning them silver honors.
The magnitude of Brian’s victory was highlighted by the high-level competitors he faced in the challenge. One of the most experienced and successful riders in the world, Niels Bruynseels (BEL) and Ilusionata van’t Meulenhof (Chap 47 x Askari 173) rounded out the top three, registering no penalties and a second-round performance in 48.63 seconds.
