Tanner Korotkin & King Z Claim the Crown of the $25,000 Buckley Fence Sunday Jumper Classic

Mill Spring, North Carolina, USA – June 02, 2023 –  Tanner Korotkin (USA) and Sandalwood Farms’ King Z dominated the $25,000 Buckley Fence Sunday Jumper Classic in Tryon Stadium, with two clear rounds and a jump off time of 34.66 seconds.

Following his win, Tanner Korotkin commented on King Z’s (Kannan x Sympatica) skill and precision over fences. “He’s only nine, and extremely competitive. You really just need to stay out of his way and can almost guarantee a clear round,” he shared.

Korotkin relied on the 2015 Zangersheide gelding’s speed across the ground for the win. “He made the first round feel pretty easy – the time was tight, so his foot speed made that no issue. Going into the jump off, I knew Jad Dana had three horses in it, all being very fast. In that situation, knowing I’m on a fast horse as well, I tend to not watch what others do. I stick to my plan and go as fast as I feel my horse is comfortable with,” Korotkin recapped.

Diego Bedoya Yanez (BOL) & Baglioni

Taking second with 37.37 seconds on the clock was Diego Bedoya Yanez (BOL) with Baglioni (Spartacus x Cipriani), the 2014 Anglo-European Warmblood mare owned by NRG Farm.

Luis Pedro Biraben (ARG) & Georgina de Carles

Luis Pedro Biraben (ARG) rode his own 2016 Selle Français mare Georgina de Carles, co-owned with Carlos Alvarez del Castillo, to third place with a time of 40.63 seconds.

Going forward, Korotkin anticipates a fruitful partnership with the talented gelding. “King is an incredible horse”, he noted. “He’s already had many wins, placed in many FEI classes, and national Grand Prixs at only nine years old. My goal is pretty simple – keep trying to teach him and keep winning.”
