Portland-West Linn, Oregon, USA – August 04,2022 – The first-ever Split Rock Portland I CSI 2* kicked off on Wednesday, August 3. Taking place at Hidden Creek Horse Park, the expansive facility with stunning views of Portland’s landscape, the brand new stop welcomed West Coast athletes to experience world-class grass footing in the hunter and Grand Prix rings. Competition on Friday, August 5 was highlighted by the $37,000 1.45m Welcome CSI 2* in which Jennifer Waxman (USA) and Lost Lake Farm’s Lavallino Ter Klomp claimed the victory after crossing the timers at 40.62 seconds.
A total of 12 combinations navigated Olaf Peterson Jr.’s (GER) track clear, making the jump-off a race to the finish line. Waxman held the advantage of not only having two rides in the jump-off, but also entering the ring in the coveted position as last to go with the 11-year-old stallion Lavallino Ter Klomp (Clearway x Coriano).

Second place was claimed by Jeffrey Fields (USA) and Sahana Ganesan’s Sherlina Ale, registering no penalties, just two–tenths of a second slower than the eventual winners in the tiebreaker.

Keri Potter (USA) and Tres Palomas’ Ariell La Sirene were also double clear, completing their second penalty–free performance in 40 .880 seconds to round out the top three.
“This is my first time showing him FEI – we’re a pretty new match. I work for the Phillips family and they bought him for me. It’s such a cool opportunity for me to ride this horse and I’m so thankful. You can tell he really enjoys doing this and likes the grass a lot. If you look at him you wouldn’t think that he’s super fast naturally but he really likes when you dare him a little bit. I feel really comfortable to take risks on him,” Waxman commented.

“I am based in Seattle now so it made a lot of sense to come to this show. They’re really doing a nice job here – the facility is so beautiful and Derek [Braun] always runs a great show. The field has been great and all of the horses are jumping great on it. I’m new to the area but the more I learn is that there’s a need for more shows in the summer and these shows are great.”
Competition at the Portland stop of the Lugano Diamonds Split Rock Jumping Tour will continue through the weekend, offering competition at every level for hunters and jumper athletes. The highlight of the weekend will be the $100,000 Lugano Diamonds 1.45m Grand Prix CSI 2* on Sunday, August 7.
