Spruce Meadows, Calgary, Alberta, Canada – July 10, 2022 – Throughout the week, riders were qualifying in the 1.45M competitions to be the best thirty-five in order to qualify for the $75,000 Lafarge Grand Prix CSI 2*. Riders were challenged to complete 525m of track and twelve obstacles (15 jumping efforts) in under 84 seconds. A number of riders passed the first round test and advanced to the jump off. In a jump off field that featured a numbr of Spruce Meadows veterans, Spruce Meadows Rookie Charlise Casas (USA) bested them all. The 21 year old, riding Mustique VZ, laid down an unbeatable clear round in a time of 39.15 seconds.
After winning the $75,000 West Canadian Grand Prix CSI 2* seven days before, Kent Farrington (USA) and Chato Lou (Chacco-Blue x Dobel’s Cento) came close to earning back-to-back CSI 2* grand prix victories, this time finishing second only due to their final time of 40.28 seconds.
Rowan Willis (AUS) did not get to drink the champagne of victory but managed to secure an honorable third place on the podium after guiding Wellington Grey Goose (Corlensky G x Grandero) towards two penalty-free performances, the the decisive one in 40.46 seconds.
