Wellington, Florida, USA – May 15, 2022 – The final week of the ESP Spring Series came to a close on Sunday, but not before the USA’s Natalie Dean (USA) and Dotcom D’Authuit placed the winning jump-off ride in the $25,000 IDA Development Grand Prix to capture the final Grand Prix win of the Spring Series.
“I have had Dotcom since she was 7-years-old and, and she is nine now, so she is just stepping up into the Grand Prix level,” Dean shared of her winning mount, who is owned by Marigold Sporthorses, LLC. “It has taken me a while to get to know her; she is very careful and has her own way of going. But she is everything that you can ask for, and she is super fast. She is such an amazing horse!”
In the opening round of competition, horses and riders were put to the test over a technical course designed by Andy Christiansen (ECU). From a starting order of 48 entries, 15 pairs cleared the opening round to advance to the jump-off. Second to test the shortened track, Hector Florentino Roca (DOM) and Meadowvale Cruise were the first pair to place a double-clear round, with the lead changing a handful of times before Dean (USA) and Dotcom D’Authuit stepped out onto the field, and ultimately cleared the course in the fastest time, stopping the clock at 36.131 seconds.
“I think the course was nice. It was big enough for a $25,000 Grand Prix class, but there were 48 in it, so I think it was very fair. I think that everyone had good rounds today and all of the horses really learned from the course. It is so nice that we can jump out on this field and give the younger horses some experience,” Dean shared.
With a double-clear time of 36.325 seconds, Kristen Vanderveen (USA) and Bull Run’s Prince of Peace, owned by Bull Run Jumpers Six LLC, nabbed the runner-up honors, while Diego Javier Vivero Viteri (ECU) and Eickendorf Horses’ Quinn 33 rounded out the podium with their clear jump-off time of 37.167 seconds.
As the groom of the winning Grand Prix horse, Marlon Huete was the recipient of the Schneiders Groom Award for the $25,000 IDA Development Grand Prix. As part of the recognition, Huete was presented with a bag of high-quality grooming supplies courtesy of Schneiders Tack.
