Wilton Porter Prevails in the $32,000 Florida Coast Equipment Qualifier CSI 2*

Wellington, Florida – January 23, 2025 – The Porter family is two for two during Week 3 of the Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) with Wilton Porter (USA) and Sternmarke 3, a 12-year-old Hanoverian gelding, winning the $32,000 Florida Coast Equipment Qualifier CSI 2*. A day earlier, his younger brother Lucas topped the two-star speed on Vigakata.

Running through March 29th, WEF hosts 12 weeks of international competition at Wellington International.

Wilton (USA) held his own over Canadian course designer Peter Grant’s track, besting runner-up Lucy Deslauriers (USA) by only three-tenths of a second.

“We’re developing quite a long-term partnership,” said Wilton, who has had the ride on the now 12-year-old since the gelding (by Argelith Stakkato) was six. “I can really trust that when I gallop quickly, he’s going to make the right shape and clear the fence.

“I did one less stride down the first line that set me apart already,” continued Wilton of the Sleepy P Ranch-owned mount. “He’s so quick and careful that today worked out in our favor.”

Wilton spoke of his brother’s win earlier in the week, saying, “We’ve always worked well together, and we both love to compete. If anything, his win yesterday motivated me to try to get my own win today.”

Deslauriers on Starlet, a 10-year-old French-bred Mare by Vigo D’Arsouilles STX, finished second with Diego Perez Bilbao (ESP) and CMD Scarlet close behind. Bilbao closes out the podium on Carolina Drummond’s Brazilian-bred 10-year-old mare.
