Rosalie Midyette & Luigi van de Kornelishoeve Light Up in the $30,000 CWD Grand Prix at Wilmington

Wilmington, Ohio, USA – February 15, 2025 – Rosalie Midyette (USA) made her first trip to World Equestrian Center – Wilmington (WEC) one to remember as she raced to the win in the $30,000 CWD Grand Prix of Winter Classic 10. Peter Grant (CAN) set the stage for the field of athletes in the Standlee Sanctuary where five riders found the key to the jump-off.

Of three double clear rounds, Midyette piloted her own Luigi van de Kornelishoeve (Carabas Vd Wateringhoeve x Ratina V/D Kornelishoeve) to the quickest effort to walk away with the blue ribbon.

“I have been riding Luigi for about six months. He just gives me wings. Honestly, I trust him more than any horse I have ever sat on in my life. I know he is going to be there for me, and I know he is going to take care of me. He is a super horse for my confidence,” Midyette spoke highly of her seasoned mount.

Emma Irwin (USA) & Las Vegas

Emma Irwin (USA) led the way in the jump-off aboard Midyette’s nine-year-old KWPN gelding, Las Vegas (Arezzo VDL x Wilke), posting a clear effort in a time of 41.541 seconds, ultimately enough to earn third place.

Shannon Sullivan (USA) & Downtown’s Main Event

Shannon Sullivan (USA) and her own 18-year-old Polish Warmblood gelding, Downtown’s Main Event, followed to stop the clock in a new leading pace of 38.281 seconds.

Midyette was pleased with the jump-off challenge set by Grant, “It was a fair course. I felt like it was a great confidence booster for me. I know I needed the experience and the turns were tight, so it was great for me to be able to get over the jump and look and move. I loved it. I couldn’t have asked for more,” she shared.

Midyette commented on her first experience at WEC, “We came up here to get out of the cold! I needed some confidence building tracks and this was exactly right for that. It has been fun learning to ride in this ring, it is only my second time riding in an indoor.”
