Lexington, Kentucky, USA – November 01, 2024 – From Champion hunters to International FEI Jumpers, the Spotlight at the 141st National Horse Show, hosted at the Kentucky Horse Park’s Alltech Arena, in Lexington, Kentucky, shifted to the world’s best for Thursday nights’ $31,020 International Welcome Stake CSI 3* – 1.45m.
As the first showjumping class of the 2024 event, course designer Alan Wade’s (IRL) opening track featured 15 efforts in the first round and run under the format with a jump-off, meaning that riders who successfully cleared the first round were invited to compete in the tiebreaker.
Of the original 28 entries, which included some of the world’s top-ranked riders, Olympians, and rising young competitors, 5 made it through to the jump-off round.
The 7-fence jump-off marked tight competition, but the Kent Farrington (USA) piloted Artisan Farms’, the Dutch Warmblood (KWPN) gelding, Kadans to the win in the $31,020 International Welcome Stake CSI 3* – 1.45m. “I rode Kadans tonight. He is a very athletic horse, he’s fast, careful, and just a modern show jumper. The track made for good competition with the course designer being one of the best in the world. With it being a 3* there is a good mix of horses and riders and I think he measured that well.”
Caitlin Boyle (USA) and Beyaert Farm Inc’s 2015 Belgian Warmblood mare, Prianti Van Het Mikkenhof secured reserve honors, registering no penalties and the final time of 34.83 seconds.
Lorcan Gallagher (IRL) and Lost Lake Farm’s 2013 Westphalian gelding, Copycat, rounded out the top three in 40.56 seconds.
