Ocala, Florida, USA –July 04, 2024 – A beautiful, sunny Florida morning set the scene for the Fourth of July and the $24,000 C. Jarvis Insurance Welcome Prix. Twenty-three horse-and-rider combinations competed over an intricate track designed by FEI Level III course designer Peter Grant (CAN), but it was Tracy Fenney (USA) and her up-and-coming eight-year-old Holsteiner mare, Can Talk To Me TD MTM (Catoki x Ocarina), who emerged victorious.

Fenney and Can Talk To Me TD MTM were the second-to-last pair to return for the jump-off out of a field of 10. “I know she has really good foot speed, but I just didn’t know how fast and how well she was going to jump at that height. I was ecstatic with her because she stayed high and was able to easily leave out all the strides,” Fenney remarked.

The pair flew around the short course, stopping the clock at 38.031 seconds to claim the win.

Will Simpson (USA) was close behind Fenney with Elizabeth Phillips’ 11-year-old Dutch Warmblood (KWPN) gelding, Imar (Carrera Vdl x Dumara), finishing with a time of 38.460 seconds, just four-tenths of a second off the pace.

Ryan Michael Genn (USA) and Birdlebourne Stables LLC’s eight-year-old Warmblood mare, Venezia D’Austral Z (Verdi x Jixi Des Flots), rounded out the top three with a quick and clear time of 39.539 seconds.

Looking forward to the bright future ahead for the talented mare, Fenney shared, “We started her last year around this time. She showed in a few seven-year-old classes and did a few futures prix classes, but this is really her first big debut at the grand prix level. We are hoping she can be just like Apple,” she added. “She’s kind of like Apple, a little unsuspecting because she just walks in there and you don’t think she’s going to be fast, but she just covers the ground. Maybe by the end of the circuit or winter, she will do her first Saturday night.”
