Lake Placid, New York, USA – July 05, 2024 – Laura Chapot (USA) swept both of Friday’s feature classes at the I Love New York Horse Show, the second week of the 55th annual Lake Placid Horse Shows (LPHS), Sponsored by Bainbridge Farms and Presented by Sea Shore Stables. Featuring a full, two-week schedule with more than $540,000 in prize money, the Lake Placid Horse Shows continue through Sunday at the North Elba Showgrounds.
Located in the historic Olympic town of Lake Placid, NY, the annual LPHS offer two weeks of exciting equestrian competition in a setting no other horse show can match, surrounded by breathtaking views of the Adirondack Mountains and the chance to enjoy countless activities that help make the Lake Placid Horse Shows, “The Best Two Weeks of a Horseman’s Summer!” LPHS hosts competitions for riders of all levels and ages ranging from young children on polished ponies, to glistening hunters, to Olympic veterans aboard their grand prix mounts.
The main event of the day was the $30,000 FarmVet Jumper Classic. Chapot was one of four entries from the field of 15 to qualify for the jump-off by riding clean over the 15-effort, first-round course designed by Nick Granat. She was the first to return for the eight-effort tiebreaker course and piloted Chandon Blue, a 19-year-old Oldenburg, to a clean ride in 34.474 seconds to set the mark to beat.
None of the remaining entries could catch Chapot’s score, with the closest being Brian Moggre (USA) and MTM Vivre Le Reve, winners of last Sunday’s $75,000 Grand Prix of Lake Placid. They finished clean in 35.979 seconds to take second. Third went to David Raposa (USA) and Lingote de Oro RFB, who came home clean in 37.438 seconds, and fourth went to Mia Bagnato, who finished with four jump-off faults and a time of 35.567 seconds on Ballyoskill Big Bucks.
My horse has been jumping great all last week and this,” Chapot said. “He really loves it up here. The grass ring and the cool weather really get him jumping better and higher; it just really gets him going. You never know what’s going to happen when you have fast horses following you, but sometimes I think it’s better for me to go first. That way, I just lay down my trip and not think about what everyone else is doing. I keep my fingers crossed and hope that it holds up.”
Each show day, LPHS action starts at 8:00 a.m., with classes running simultaneously in four spectacular show rings – the Richard M. Feldman Grand Prix Field, the E.R. Mische Jumper Ring, the Main Hunter Ring, and the Hunter Ring. The I Love New York Horse Show is highlighted by the $75,000 Richard M. Feldman Grand Prix on Sunday, July 7 at 1:30 p.m. Prior to the Grand Prix is the highly popular Doggie Costume Contest Sponsored by Man and Beast. All dogs in town are invited to participate and those with dogs in costume, on a leash, are admitted to the horse show free of charge. There is no entry fee for the Doggie Costume Contest and all participants receive free treats.
A USEF Heritage Competition, the LPHS shows feature USHJA World Championship Hunter Rider (WCHR) Northeast events, Green Hunter Incentive classes, hunter and jumper classics, and divisions for Young Jumpers. 0.65m Itty-Bitty Jumpers and 0.85m Junior/Amateur Jumpers. Additionally, LPHS offers classes that are part of the Show Jumping Hall of Fame Jumper Classic Series and North American League (NAL).
