Izzy Beisel Steals the Spotlight in the $30,000 Grand Prix of Wilmington

Wilmington, Ohio – February 04, 2024 – It was a banner day for Izzy Beisel (USA) in the Standlee Sanctuary at World Equestrian Center – Wilmington Winter Classic 8, claiming both the win and third place honors in the $30,000 Grand Prix, and the win in the $10,000 Futures Prix.

“That was so fun. It is the first time I have won both classes too. I told my dad that I got fourth in the hunter derby yesterday and we have four fourth place ribbons at the barn. It looks bad on the banner, so I knew I needed to get better ribbons today!”

As the only junior rider in the field, Beisel dominated the class advancing to a three-horse jump-off with both of her entered mounts.

Beisel discussed her progression with her winning mount, Vegas H (Valentino x Cobrah), in the jump-offs since the beginning of their partnership, “When I first started riding Vegas, he was still a bit green and was learning how to look for turns. After the first jump today, he was looking to go inside but I opted for the outside track. I was angling the second jump, and he just has gotten so good that he knows if we jump on an angle, we are turning that way, so I turned inside after that.”

With a clear effort in 36.705 seconds, Beisel ultimately secured the lead with David Beisel’s 10-year-old Hanoverian gelding.

As the final entry, Izzy Beisel and her speedy 11-year-old Selle Français gelding, Diaz Barbotiere (Messire Ardent x Quambera Barbotiere), posted the quickest time of 35.861 seconds with unfortunate faults to round out the top three.

“At the beginning of last year, the transition from horse to horse was definitely awkward for me. That was when I first started doing both of them in the bigger classes. I have gotten better at clearing my mind after the first horse. We go over the plan about four times, so I always have a good idea of what to do for each horse now,” said Beisel.

Nicole Loochtan (USA) & It’s Me du Bosquetiau

Welcome winner Nicole Loochtan (USA) and her own 10-year-old Belgian Sport Horse stallion, It’s Me du Bosquetiau (Dayton Sitte x Mirette Du Bosquetiau), jumped an effortless and respectable double clear in 41.42 seconds for second place.
